Student Council Collects Money For Cow!
Issued April 12, 2010
Some members of student council present the Student Council Teacher Representative with a cheque for Plan Internatioal Canada.
The students of Carbonear Collegiate have big hearts when it comes to helping others in need. This past Christmas students and teachers raised money to help a family in Sierra Leone. Students donated money to Plan International Canada to buy a cow for a family. This cow will provide a family with milk and enable them to sell the extra milk to earn money to buy other essentials the family needs like food and clothing and supplies. The remainder of the money was used to purchase classroom essentials for students. These gifts of hope provide children in need of a better life with sustainable and lasting improvements in the areas of community health, education, and improved opportunities for self-sufficiency. Since Christmas students also participated in Rice Day where they raised money for poor families in developing countries. Most recently they participated in a fundraiser for Epilepsy where they raised money by purchasing purple arm bracelets and dressing in purple for purple day.
